Commitment Ceremony
Even though same sex marriages are not yet permitted in Australia, commitment ceremonies are a great solution for same sex couples who want to commit to each other in a ceremony similar to a marriage ceremony.
A commitment ceremony can be officiated following the same rituals and traditions as a civil wedding ceremony with certificates designed for signatures at the end of the ceremony.
While a commitment ceremony is not legally binding, it should not be entered into lightly.
Commitment ceremonies are also great for couples who want to take their relationship to a new level but do not desire to be legally married.
You may also want to celebrate your union in Sydney after an overseas elopement or a traditional cultural wedding in your home country; then a commitment ceremony can be the occasion to share and announce your commitment to each other in front of your Australian family and friends.

Time spent giving thought and care to those promises, making sure they are honest and meaningful, is one of the most valuable things you can do for your wedding day and your future marriage. Writing your own commitment vows has become increasingly popular for this reason. It is not too hard to do. Simply take time to think about what you consider is really special in your relationship and what you really love about your partner.
